When Jane first came to Serco....as a Temp!

I remember Jane's first day here at Serco..... it was with SIS, as a temp! And for the one and only Mike Brown - a tough boss to please, as Sue Knight later discovered :) But we had gone through several temps following the departure of Louise Smith back in Sept 2007. I was drowning in work, suffering with a nasty virus, Suzie Phillips had just joined Serco 2 weeks before, and Jess Edwards was juggling her own job and looking after Mike too. And then in walked the 4th temp we'd had within 6 months, who we were dreading as all the others had been a nightmare!......However, this time it was different. I just remember this lady had a real presence about her and a real confidence in her mannerisms, and as I said hello, I eyed up her fantastically high heels she was wearing lol! Jane was just so full of warmth when I first met her, and I knew instantly she didn't need any 'babysitting' with the job, as with previous temps. The plan was for her to take hold of Mike's diary and workload, but after she saw how sick I was, she instantly took charge and told me to go home and rest. I had only known this person for a day, but I felt no reluctance at all to leave my job in her hands. I had no doubt she would take control of things and look after my Directors - and she certainly did that! And not only did she do that, but within a week, she was also taking control of Mike Brown and his many demands! After a few days rest, I came back and found everything running smoothly and my 4 Directors (Julia Cavanagh, Mike Boult, Stewart Davies & Phil Avery) more than happy with the support they'd had in my absence. After a couple of weeks, Jane and I were getting on so well and it was like I had known her for years. She wanted to know all about me and my life, and told me all about hers. She was just so open and friendly - it was a real pleasure to work with her, and she certainly kept Mike on his toes, which was very entertaining at times ;) Her attitude to life was 'work hard, play hard' - and I discovered this after she told me many stories about her weekends she spent with her close group of friends, who she adored. Jane and I became really good friends, and I was honoured to be invited over to her house on a few occasions, for a girls night in over the weekends. We drank, ate and shared lots of stories about ex boyfriends, friends and of course gossip about work! :) Within a short amount of time, she had made a real impact in our office, and her name was already "out there". She had also decided she really liked Serco and wanted to stay. An opening came up for an EA role over in DST, which turned out to be Sue Knight's job, and Jane and Sue "swapped" jobs! I didn't hestitate to recommend Jane for the role in DST, which she was very grateful for. We were sad to see the departure of Jane in SIS, but I kept in touch, and remained friends. I am so glad to have known Jane, and been one of her many friends and colleagues. I will definitely be taking a leaf out of Jane's book in the future and spending more time with my friends and family, and ensuring I "capture" those special and fun moments too - her photo collection was immense and enviable! There is certainly only one Lady J in my book!
